Newcomers
Welcome Home
Starting a new life in a new country can be daunting, evoking a myriad of emotions. Our newcomer programs provide stabilizing, culturally-responsive, community-based support
to individuals and families as they settle into life in Canada. We meet people where they are and help them navigate new systems with confidence.
Pathways Forward
Our Pathways Forward program welcomes individuals and families who are new arrivals to the City of Brampton and are seeking support to find their way around unfamiliar places. You will have opportunities to build social connections, explore available resources and participate in cultural and community activities that support belonging and engagement.
Our program offers:
- Newcomer workshops focused on employment readiness, financial literacy, settlement resources and social services
- Social networking opportunities, including cultural exchange events, newcomer meet-ups and family activities
- Youth-focused programming such as drop-in programs featuring poetry, storytelling and performances
- Field trips to explore local landmarks and community spaces
- Indigenous storytelling and cultural awareness through shared learning experiences
This program is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Newcomers Inclusive Communities Project (NICP)
The Region of Peel is one of the most diverse regions in Canada, attracting many newcomers annually. The Newcomers Inclusive Communities Project (NICP) was developed to help individuals and families settle and become familiar with the Region as soon as possible after their arrival.
The program, which is jointly delivered by Roots Community Services, Indus Community Services, Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Services and Punjabi Community Health Services, focuses on supporting newcomers and families by strengthening social connections and increasing opportunities for community engagement. It aims to reduce the sense of social isolation and promote inclusion by creating welcoming spaces for participation and learning.
The program offers:
- Neighbourhood-based engagement activities and community conversations
- Community resources and wellness events
- Volunteer involvement with a focus on cultural awareness and community participation
- Connection to local services, programs and community supports
- Relationship-building and collaboration within diverse communities
The program is funded by the United Way of Greater Toronto and supported by Peel Newcomer Strategy Group, the City of Brampton, Town of Caledon, City of Mississauga, Trillium Health Partners and Volunteer MBC.
