What We Do

At RootsCS we strive to help build a vibrant region by inspiring individuals and families to lead healthy and well-balanced lives and become strong contributors within their various communities. With a focus on the Black, African and Caribbean Canadians, our programs are offered from a culturally- appropriate perspective and within an anti-oppression, anti-racism framework. Our programs are geared toward children aged 6 years to seniors well into their 90s.

Tax Clinic - offers free tax preparation services during the tax filing period (March and April), in collaboration with the Canada Revenue Agency. Over 300 returns filed in 2019

Shoe Box Project - we provide high-quality personal items for women in need

Food Baskets - in collaboration with Basket Brigade Canada, supports families in need during holiday periods (Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas) with food and other necessities

Spelling Bee - supports the Brampton regional competition which inspires students to expand their vocabulary, communication skills and self-confidence, by building a foundation for future academic achievements

Toronto Star Christmas Fund - a Christmas toy drive providing toys for approximately 75 of our clients with children

Training - each year we train approximately 20 college and university students who choose to do their co-op placement with us

Advocacy - we serve on numerous committees in the Region of Peel to help shape and change policies to ensure equitable and equal opportunities for all residents
