Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are integral to the success of our organization. We would be unable to provide the services and supports our members and communities rely on without the valuable input of volunteers. Through volunteering, youth, adults and seniors have the opportunity to give back to their community and gain a sense of satisfaction in doing so. We also welcome high school students who will have the opportunity to gain their community service hours.
We have volunteer opportunities in the following areas:
- Tutors and mentors - Arts, Literacy & Tutoring Club after-school program
- Mentors - Black Leaders of Tomorrow Youth Business Mentorship program
- Bingo fundraising (must be at least 18 years old)
- Board committees
- Office administration
- Summer and Spring break camps

Successful applicants will need to complete a criminal reference check or vulnerable sector check before placement begins.
Office Administrator
The Office Administrator will be responsible for knowing RootsCS's operational and administrative procedures and being able to share this knowledge with staff, community members, and clients. This position also coordinates all aspects of Bingo sessions and the Tax Clinic.
Case Worker
The Case Worker will provide culturally-responsive support to individuals and families who are new to Canada and navigating the complex process of settlement and integration.
Human Resources Coordinator
The Human Resources Coordinator position will focus primarily on supporting the BHSS Hub, ensuring that the integrated Human Resources needs of the Hub’s staff and programs are met in alignment with BHSS policies, procedures, and values.
Data Analyst
The Data Analyst will support the Hub’s monitoring, evaluation, and data analytics functions. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Data Analyst will play a critical role in strengthening evidence-based decision-making and advancing equity-focused practices across BHSS Hub programs.
Crisis Support Worker
The Crisis Support Worker will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in the Region of Peel to assist individuals in crisis due to severe mental illness. Responsibilities include triaging calls on the crisis line, conducting risk and safety assessments, performing mental status examinations, and providing support to clients in the community.
Content Delivery Specialist
The Content Delivery Specialist is responsible for the development and execution of communications, marketing and public relations strategies to engage members of Black, African and Caribbean (BAC) communities and other Roots Community Services stakeholders.
Youth and Family Worker
The Youth and Family Worker will play a pivotal role in providing counselling, case management, wraparound navigation, and justice-related supports to Black youth and their families. This position combines responsibilities within two key program areas - Akoma Wraparound Program and the Youth Justice Program.
Gender-Based Violence Counsellor
The Counsellor, Gender-Based Violence reports to the Manager, Family Services and delivers services in partnership with the Safe Centre of Peel (SCoP). This role provides direct support to women and children in the Region of Peel who have experienced, or are at risk of experiencing, gender-based violence, including domestic violence and sexual assault.
Executive Assistant
The Executive Assistant (EA) will provide a high level of confidential administrative, operational and day-to-day support to the CEO, as well as support some functions related to the Board of Directors. The role involves handling communications in the executive office, assisting on projects, and liaising internally with staff and volunteers as well as externally with partner agencies. The Executive Assistant is expected to work with limited direction, executing a significant amount of judgment, tact, diplomacy, confidentiality, and discretion in all aspects of the role.
